QuestionSex.
An Essay

From the moment we’re born, we’re given a script—who we should be, what we should want, and how we should experience sex and sexuality. These beliefs shape us, often without question, passed down through family, culture, and society.

But what if these beliefs aren’t actually ours? What if they’re holding us back from truly understanding our own desires, pleasures, and identities?

It’s time to pause, reflect, and question. Because when we do, we open the door to a deeper, more authentic connection with ourselves—and the world around us.

The Influence of Beliefs and the Power of Questioning Them

From the moment we’re born, we’re handed an identity—an image of who we’re supposed to be, what we should like, and what we’re expected to believe. These beliefs often go unquestioned for years, shaping how we experience sex and sexuality. Some of them are conscious, but many are subconscious, passed down through culture, family, and society. These beliefs become the foundation of how we see ourselves and the world around us.

Many of these beliefs are self-limiting—they keep us from truly understanding our own desires, pleasures, and identities. When we stop to reflect and question these beliefs, we begin a journey of self-discovery.

What IS Sex?

This is the central question I invite all of us to explore: What is sex to us? Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. So many of us define sex based on what we’ve been taught, rather than what truly resonates with us. But when we start to question how we define sex, we begin to unravel the conditioning that has shaped us. This process allows us to explore sex as an experience that involves our whole self—not just the physical body, but our mind, soul, and spirit.

The Journey of Self Discovery

The process of questioning and unpacking self-limiting beliefs is essential for personal growth. When we begin to recognize and challenge these beliefs, we open ourselves up to more self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love. This is how we start to heal and grow—by peeling back the layers and revealing the truths that lie beneath.

As we question our beliefs, we begin to understand sex as more than just an act. We start to see it as a complex and meaningful experience that involves all parts of who we are. The more we expand our understanding of sex, the more we expand our whole self.

A More Whole Self, A More Whole World

This journey isn’t just about us. When we embrace a more whole, expansive self, we can better connect with others and engage in more open, inclusive conversations. As we heal and grow individually, we also contribute to a more understanding and accepting world. Questioning our beliefs about sex is the beginning of a ripple effect that can create change—not just for us, but for everyone we touch.
